(PREVIOUS WORK)
During my time at Tanner Architects, I had the opportunity to contribute to the design of a new tasting pavilion at the renowned Tolpuddle Vineyard, nestled in Tasmania’s beautiful Coal River Valley.
The design is inspired by the simplicity of rural farm buildings, taking cues from the local agricultural vernacular. Modest in scale and understated in form, the pavilion was carefully positioned to preserve key views and blend seamlessly with its surroundings.
Clad in black-stained macrocarpa, the building quietly contrasts with the lush green of the vineyard, creating a subtle moment of arrival. The pavilion’s long, linear form follows the natural contours of the land, reinforcing a strong connection to place while offering expansive views across the rolling hills.
Inside, the palette is warm and refined. Timber lining, made from Hydrowood salvaged from Tasmania’s western lakes, brings depth and a sense of story to the interior. The neutral tones are designed to let the colours of the landscape, and the wine, take centre stage.
